Chamber Groups

Participants are matched in trios, quartets, or quintets according to age and experience level. These groups give participants the opportunity to work closely with their coaches and to get to know their peers.

 

Spring 2024 Dates

Apply by: Saturday January 13, 2024

Rehearsal Dates: Saturdays, 3:15 - 4:30 pm

  • January 27

  • February 3 and 10 (then skip 2 weeks)

  • March 2, (then skip 1 week), 16, and 23 (then skip 2 weeks)

  • April 13, 20 (Master Class), and 27

  • May 4 (performance 3pm)

Absence Policy: No more than 2 excused absences are acceptable per session which cannot include the master class or the performance, and must be known way in advance. Illness will be excused but this needs to be communicated as soon as possible in advance of the specific rehearsal.

PLEASE REALIZE you will be the only one playing your part so it is essential that you commit to being a member of the team and attending all rehearsals that you possibly can.

Tuition: $650 for the semester (spring 2024)

Requirements

Applying students should be at Suzuki Book 3 (strings, pianists) or at any Band Book 2 (or equivalent level) or higher.

Prerequisites include:

  • At least a year of private lessons, preferably more, and currently taking lessons

  • Proficiency in keys up to 3 sharps and flats

  • Ability to play various articulations (e.g. legato, staccato)

  • Accurate rhythm and intonation

  • Note and rhythm READING skills are essential

  • Strings: Proficiency in 3rd position for violin and viola, 4th for cello; acquaintance with higher positions recommended

  • Strings: Vibrato

  • Woodwinds: Ability to play the full range of the instrument (excluding the extended high range)

  • Pianists: Ability to play both hands together, with chords (2 or 3 note) or melodies in either hand

It is highly recommended but not required to participate in Allegro Ensemble as well as the chamber music program during the fall and spring sessions. The discount for doing both is $100, so spring 2024 total for both is $800.
